ABOUT US
Eleven and a half years ago, www.weeklyrant.com was launched to counter the myth that there was never anything fun to do in Richmond. That myth has long been dispelled thanks to this calendar (and others) and we all know that RVA offers interesting and unique events on a daily basis.
For more than 11 years, more than 7,000 subscribers have received emails every week with all of the goings-on in RVA. Be sure you receive our weekly e-mail as well as join us on Facebook and Twitter where we push out quick and helpful reminders of upcoming events, special deals, and free tickets given away each week.
The new RiverCityRapids continues the tradition of the weeklyrant.com emails you have known and trusted for over a decade but incorporates features and voices that reflect today’s technology and mediums. Blogs, social media, and Foursquare did not exist eleven years ago but they have changed the way we communicate and discover events in our community.
Why the name change, you ask? Weeklyrant.com was launched in 1999 as a weekly email listing of events and Version 2.0 was launched four 1/2 years ago when RiverCityRapids was a burgeoning young blog commenting on city issues
and government. Since then, the blog has been retired but the promotion of music, arts & culture, and events in Richmond has become so crowded that it virtually requires constant promotion and updates using all the technological tools available today (at least those we know how to use).
Not to mention that “ranting” is more synonymous today with political blogging, invective, and yelling, especially on the national political scene which, in our opinion, is no longer reflective of what are working to accomplish – which is give you the best platform to discover all the great things going on in Richmond.
We thought River City Rapids better reflected the River City’s temperament and attitude and thus have folded weeklyrant.com’s calendar into a bigger and better platform that uses new tools of promotion along with new voices that help you discover and experience the vibrant and exciting scene in RVA.
Along with our great longtime sponsors and some new ones coming on board, we hope you will continue to utilize RiverCityRapids as your main resource for live music, arts & culture, food, sports & recreation, and fun.
